About the Journal

  • Journal invites original thoughts focused on either one of the three main domains:

Cities  studies related to physical, social and environmental issues in the scale of districts and beyond up to the scale of cities. Topics in this domain address practical and theoretical issues in urban design, planning and policy such as innovative solutions and smart cities as well as studies related to culture, urban sociology, well-being and livability of cities. Studies related to effects of internet, digital devices, Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (A.I.) on the formation space in any scale (building, district, city) are most welcome.

Architecture domain focuses on original thoughts and approaches which are focused on individual or collective man-made environments up to the level of a neighborhood or a district. This will include buildings with different functions such as commercial, housing, mixed-use and temporary residency as well as architectural features of buildings such as study of the form, material, space organization, lighting or relationships of two or more architectural components between different buildings or within a building between different spaces. We believe pure theoretical and methodological approaches related to built environment itself and education of it are essential to provide a foundation for a better environment, hence theoretical and methodological approaches are quite welcome and highly valued.

Within the third domain which is the Society, the aim is to gather ideas and discussions that are not necessarily or directly related to the use of space in architecture and urban scale but expand our vision toward understanding socio-cultural aspects of  communities. Topics in this domain will nurture the foundation for better understanding the city life including but not limited to cultural differences, night studies, immigration and refugees, safety and perception of safety, marginalized societies, homelessness and human needs.

We believe multi-format documentation of social and physical constructions of the society is of great importance and invite researchers to enrich their articles with clickable links (hyperlinks) to traditional databases such as scientific journals and books as well as  recently emerged alternative databases such as social media, youtube, websites and blogs.

Submitting informative visualisations such as videos, animations and GIF files together with the manuscript is highly recommended.

Journal accepts manuscripts to be published in one of the two main sections:

FULL LENGTH ARTICLES

Articles submitted to this section will be directed toward double-blind peer-review process. Word count is limited to 5000 to 9000 words including abstract and references.

ALTERNATIVE RESEARCH

This section is non-refereed and dedicated to manuscripts that are either shorter in length (1000-5000 words) or different in the structure including book reviews, competition and event reports and debates. Introducing distinctive architectural and urban design/planning projects that are touching either of the main scopes of the journal is also included in this section.
